One of our five-year old students...a fluent reader...asked me why there are two "ka" sounds in our language. "What do you mean?" I asked. "You know," he said, "Ka...and...ka!" Then he pointed to a "C" and a "K" to better explain himself. Of course both of those letters have the sound "ka" when he reads. "And shouldn't I pronounce the word "rocket" (he was pointing at the written word now) "ro-ka-ka-et?"" he asked, "since there are TWO "ka" sounds in it?" Even Montessori can't always make the English language logical!
